KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's speech at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) annual general assembly yesterday showed that he harbours deep resentment against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi, in making the claim, believes that the resentment stems from Dr Mahathir's belief that Najib, who is also Umno president, is to blame for the political failure of his son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
"I am certain that Dr Mahathir will do anything to overthrow Najib from the prime minister's post. He is too obsessed with making Mukhriz the prime minister," said Puad, who is also Special Affairs Department (JASA) director general.
This, he said, is why Dr Mahathir has no qualms about going in and out of Umno. He cosies up to DAP to an extent that qualifies him to be called a man with whom anything is possible. And now he 'french kisses' (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim and seeks his release from prison despite previously being the one who jailed the latter for sodomy.
"There was nothing of benefit from his speech, apart from the blaming of others, including muftis and Sultans. Anyone who stops Mukhriz from becoming prime minister will become his enemy."
"And it is for this very reason, PPBM and the Opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan will continue to be in turmoil if Mukhriz fails to become prime minister," he said.
