Azmin Ali: I prefer serving as Selangor MB, not PM

KANGAR: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali today played down the possibility of him becoming Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for prime minister.

Speaking to reporters here today, the Selangor Menteri Besar said he prefers to remain in his current position as a state-level leader.

“I am just a leader at the state level, so I prefer to continue serving in Selangor,” he said.

On the proposal for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be appointed interim prime minister, Azmin said PKR has made it clear that the prime minister candidate should be someone committed to carrying out national reforms.

The Gombak member of parliament also said all Pakatan Harapan member parties must reach a consensus before appointing their prime minister designate.

“Besides that, we also need to gather feedback from the people as they should be given space to decide on the future of the country, not by certain individuals.

“I believe Pakatan Harapan is open on this matter to ensure that we have the support of the people,” he told reporters after attending the Keadilan Tour at Taman Sri Firdaus here today.

Azmin was responding to a survey carried out on Facebook, in which netizens voted for Azmin and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as the prime minister and deputy prime minister, respectively.

It was reported that the 1,100 respondents chose Azmin and Mukhriz over Dr Mahathir and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the country’s top two posts.
