KUALA LUMPUR: The race for the Bersatu Youth chief post in the party's polls next month is shaping up to be a two-horse race between an ex-aide to Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Perikatan Nasional (PN) youth leader.
Muhamad Hilman Idham, the Gombak Setia assemblyman who previously served as Azmin's political secretary submitted his nomination papers for the Youth chief's post this morning.
He will likely face Zahin Zainal, the PN Youth's election director, who also filed his nomination papers today.
Incumbent Bersatu youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has said he would not defend his post in the coming party polls.
At a press conference today, Hilman said the party polls were crucial in ensuring the continuity of the Youth wing's work.
He said there was a need to elevate the wing to support the party's growth.
Meanwhile, Zahin in his press conference said he was confident of support from the wing's members.
He said the entire wing would need to work together moving forward.
"Our priority is to prepare the team to face the 16th general election," he said.
Voting for Bersatu Youth posts will be held on 19 Oct across all party divisions nationwide.
Other posts up for grabs include the Youth wing's permanent chairman and deputy chairman positions, the deputy Youth chief position, and 15 Youth exco posts.
