KOTA BARU: The Opposition today give the strongest clue yet that Nik Omar Nik Aziz, son of former Kelantan Menteri Besar and Pas spiritual leader, is likely to contest under the Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) ticket.
State PAN chairman Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah said discussions were ongoing.
“As far as we are concerned, Husam (Musa), who is PAN advisor, had offered Nik Omar to contest since a year ago...the offers were never rejected by Nik Omar.
“Therefore, discussions with Nik Omar and his family members are still going on and expected to be finalised tomorrow,” he said.
Nik Omar, who is Nik Abduh (Pasir Mas MP)’s eldest brother, had been rumoured to be contesting under the PAN ticket. However, which seat he will be vying for is still anyone’s guess.
Husam, who is Salor assemblyman, would be contesting against the Pas secretary-general who is also Kota Baru MP, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
Wan Abdul Rahim said apart from contesting in the Salor state seat, Husam was expected to face Takiyuddin in the Kota Baru parlimentary seat.
“This is a challenge from Husam to Takiyuddin and he (Husam) hopes Takiyuddin will accept it.
“If both of them are involved in a three-cornered fight with the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate who we believe will be the son of Kota Baru Umno chief, Fikran Hamsi Muhamad Fatmi, the contest will be interesting,” he said.
