GE14: Don't allow Mahathir's agenda to divert people's rights: Liow

BENTONG: The people should prevent Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad from using his personal agenda to undermine their rights in choosing a responsible government in the coming 14th general election (GE14).

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said Mahathir returned to the election battlefield in GE14 with a personal agenda and to seek revenge against Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the Prime Minister.

Liow who is also MCA president said voters needed to understand the sly tactic and be aware that GE14 was to choose a government and not the ground for an individual to seek vengeance.

“To ensure the success of his personal agenda against the Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir had distorted the various benefits brought in by the government and misled the people with unfounded accusations and allegations merely to sow hatred against Najib and Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Therefore the people should not allow the development plans and agenda for the people and country as formulated by the Prime Minister to go astray by allowing the election to be seized by Mahathir and his associates in the opposition coalition,” he said.

Liow was speaking to Bernama after opening the West Pahang Eco and Agro Tourism Association annual general meeting here in conjunction with his going to the ground programme in Bentong district today.

Commenting further, Liow who is Bentong incumbent MP said to achieve his personal objectives, Dr Mahathir had created various negative perceptions against the government.

He said this included accusing Najib of selling the country’s sovereignty via the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) , Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) in Gambang as well as the development of Forest City in Iskandar Malaysia, Johor.

He said as the former prime minister, Dr Mahathir was actually aware of the approaches in attracting foreign investments and benefits to the people but he deliberately kept a blind eye and continued to spread slanders to achieve his motives.

“But we are confident the actions to raise hatred against the government would not succeed in influencing the people who have long enjoyed the benefits of plans implemented by the government,” he said. - Bernama
