Pas confident candidates will remain loyal after weeding out 'harumanis' group

ALOR STAR: Kedah Pas is confident that all of its 50 candidates for the state and parliamentary seats will not turn their back from the party, after successfully weeding out the 'harumanis group'.

The party proved that meant it mean business, by dropping its two-term Kubang Rotan assemblyman Mohd Nasir Mustafa, after losing several of its elected reps to its splinter party, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

Its state commissioner Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurraz said the party is assured that the candidates would hold firm to the bai'ah (allegiance of loyalty) that they collectively sworn before a crowd the party's supporters at the state Pas headquarters in Kota Sarang Semut here.

Fakhruddin said the candidates were committed to Pas' struggles and have passed the stringent vetting process by the party leadership.

"They were also vetted by the Syura Council, Pas highest decision making body and we are confident that they will not cross over to other parties," he said.

Asked on the decision to drop Mohd Nasir, he said it was the party's decision and declined to elaborate.

Asked on how Kedah Pas would woo the young voters and the non-Muslim voters, Fakhruddin said he confident that the party's manifesto and candidate who are formed from various backgrounds would appeal to the mass voters. — Reports by Adie Suri Zulkefli, Petah Wazzan Iskandar and Muhaamad Hafis Nawawi
