KOTA BARU: Kelantan Pas will leave it to the party's top leaders to decide on the next move following the vacancy of the Nenggiri state seat yesterday.
State Pas deputy commissioner Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said he was told that the party headquarters will convene a meeting to discuss the issue soon.
"Pas's central committee will hold a meeting soon to further discuss the issue including on the candidate .
"It is up to them. We (Kelantan Pas) will accept whatever that the party leaders decide" he said.
Mohd Amar, who is Panchor assemblyman was speaking to reporters at the qurban ceremony in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri at his constituency here today.
He said the state party was opened to suggestions for the by-election candidate being from Pas or Bersatu.
Mohd Amar, who is also Pas vice-president, expressed confidence that the Perikatan Nasional coalition would win the seat in the by-election.
It was reported that the Election Commission (EC) would hold a special meeting on June 28 to address the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan.
Its secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said they received an official notification from Kelantan State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah about the unexpected vacancy of the N.43 Nenggiri seat.
He said this vacancy follows the loss of Bersatu membership by the seat's incumbent, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, on June 13.
Yesterday, the Kelantan state assembly declared the Nenggiri state seat vacant, paving the way for a possible by-election in Kelantan.
