LANGKAWI: The move by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed to become an opposition candidate in Langkawi in the 14th General Election (GE14) will only destroy what he had developed all this while when he was prime minister previously.
Umno Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin today likened the move by the former prime minister as an attempt to bring down the house that he had built for 22 years just because someone else who had assumed the post later wished to improve the house.
“When someone comes to us to help in building our house, we say thank you for helping. Then, after having left for a long time, someone else comes to refurbish the house to look better, we should thank the new person for beautifying our area,” he said.
Speaking at the programme ‘Karnival Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat Langkawi’ held at the Kompleks Pekan Rabu here, he said the people here need not listen to the allegations hurled by the opposition that did not bring any benefit to them.
“We want our future generation to be more comfortable than what we are enjoying today,” said Hamzah, who is also Domestic Trade. Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister, added. --BERNAMA
