'A Distinguished Leader': Tributes pour in for Tun Daim, legacy honoured across political spectrum

KUALA LUMPUR: National leaders and politicians across the divide have extended their condolences to the family of former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin who passed away earlier today.

Many have described Daim's passing as a significant loss for the country.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that Daim was a distinguished leader who made great contributions to the nation.

"This morning, we received the sad news of the passing of Tun Daim Zainuddin, who died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

"May Allah SWT forgive his sins, place his soul among the righteous, and reward him for all his contributions to the country," said Saifuddin on his X social media account.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said that Daim's contributions to the country have been invaluable and will serve as an inspiration for future generations.

"May the late Tun Daim's soul be blessed with divine mercy and be placed among the righteous," he said.

Former Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng, also conveyed his condolences to Daim's family.

"My deepest condolences to the family of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, former Finance Minister, on his passing today.

"May his soul be blessed with divine mercy and be placed among the righteous," said the DAP Chairman.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said expressed her condolences to Daim's family while describing the late Daim as a key figure during his time in UMNO.

She said to reporters today that Daim made significant contributions to the party, despite the ups and downs.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching also took the opportunity to offer her condolences on Daim's passing before beginning her responses in the Dewan Rakyat this morning.

Meanwhile, Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari described Daim as a figure known for his commitment and wisdom during his tenure as Finance Minister.

He added that Daim's contributions had a profound impact on the country's economic development and helped strengthen financial stability.

"Indeed, the nation has lost a great leader who made significant contributions to Malaysia's progress across various fields, particularly in the economy and administration," he said in a Facebook post.
