MUKAH: Barisan Nasional candidate for the Mukah parliamentary seat, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, has called on people to stop comparing her with her father.
The businesswoman turned politician is the youngest daughter of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, who was the longest serving chief minister.
The head of the state was also the assemblyman for Balingian, which is one of the three state seats in Mukah apart from Dalat and Telian.
Hanifah, who is among the 12 new faces fielded by Sarawak BN in the 14th General Election (GE14), said it was unfair to place the same expectation on her similar to the political career of her father.
“I am aware that my father has a great presence and influence since he was an assemblyman for one of the state seats in Mukah.
“It is a big shoes to fill but I will try my best to serve the constituents in Mukah if I win the polls,” she said when met at the nomination centre for the Mukah parliamentary seat here today.
She was accompanied by state Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Woman, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and Telian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo to the nomination centre at the Mukah civic centre here.
She is going against Abdul Jalil Bujang of PKR in a straight fight for the contest in the Mukah parliamentary constituency.
