Mukhriz continues to use GST as campaign 'scare tactic'

PADANG TERAP: The Good and Services Tax (GST) continues to be the main topic used by Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as his campaigning material in the 14th General Election.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president is claiming that the GST rate of six per cent will be increased if BN continues to govern the country after GE14.

To sway the voters, Mukhriz is using a statement by Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the comparison of the GST rates in Malaysia and other countries the basis for his argument.

“Listen to what Najib said about the GST...good, fine and that 160 countries have already implemented it. Malaysia has among the lowest rates, and in some countries it’s as high as 22 per cent.

“When (the prime minister) says this, what does he mean...to fulfill the promises (in the manifesto), once GE14 is done, the GST will go up..compare this with us (the opposition); today we go up (become the governmnent), tomorrow we’ll abolish the GST,” he said.

Mukhriz was speaking at a political ceramah in Taman Akasia, Kuala Nerang, on Tuesday night.

Apart from the GST, Muhriz has also rolled out the opposition’s criticism of 1Malaysia Development Brd (1MDB) to the 100 people in attendance.

On the low turnout, Mukhriz said ‘bribery’ was the main factor behind why many people attended Umno and Barisan Nasional events.

He also admitted that the opposition places ‘its people’ among the crowd in BN and UMno events to monitor the goings-on.

“The ones who takes the videos are our people... the ones who admit they’re Umno members are also our people.. those wearing the blue BN shirts are also our people, there’s no point covering up,” he said.
