KUALA LUMPUR: Two MyPPP annual general assemblies are being held over this weekend.
The first was held at Putra World Trade Centre here today which named Datuk Seri Maglin D’Cruz as the president.
And the second is to be held at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall tomorrow by their deposed president Tan Sri M. Kayveas who seeks to reinforce himself as the party supremo.
Maglin who briefed the press today said the meeting decided on several key issues.
Chief among them was the party’s decision to name Maglin as president following the sacking of Kayveas.
“The decision to raise my position from acting president to party head was supported by more than 1,200 delegates nationwide,” said Maglin, adding that 85 per cent of the 31 supreme council members were present.
Maglin further stressed that the assembly unanimously supported the party’s disciplinary committee’s decision to sack Kayveas.
“You can see that we are intact. Members, supreme council members...we are intact. At the meeting we just explained the expulsion of our past president, we told them what happened, and the members (also) unanimously agreed with us.”
“It was not easy but we have no choice. We have to follow the procedures. We already followed the procedures and party constitution,” he added.
He also confirmed that the faction was still with Barisan Nasional, unlike Kayveas who has been flippant on the subject.
Former Federal Territories deputy minister Datuk Seri Loga Bala Mohan was named as his senior Vice President while Datuk Dr Sivakumar was appointed as MyPPP vice president.
Maglin also said that he was prepared to face any legal repercussions on the meeting as his faction was the legitimate MyPPP.
“We went to see the newly minted RoS Director-General two days ago. They (RoS) told us that both of us (the factions) can go ahead with the AGM and they will make a decision,” he added.
Kavyeas previously said ROS had issued a letter dated May 18 which stated that he would remain as MyPPP president pending a probe on some party-related issues.
Meanwhile the faction’s deputy secretary-general Datuk Simon Sabapathy said that Kayveas had no locus standi to file a case pursuant to the dispute as he was no longer a member.
Loga Bala insisted that the party had followed their constitution and all the procedures before they dismissed Kayveas.
“He is free to do as he likes but as far as we are concerned what he is doing is not legal.”
He also added that MyPPP has 60 days to file its AGM report with the ROS but it is expected to do so by next week.
