KUALA LUMPUR: Former Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has expressed his interest in running for the Umno Youth chief post in the party’s upcoming elections.
“The test that has hit Umno now is a sign from Allah that all of the party’s supporters need to really embrace the true meaning of fighting spirit. If the fight is to pursue rank and material gains, the reality is that these are gone.
“What remains today is the remnants of the struggle that requires the loyalty and sincerity of every member to make changes in the party,” he said.
He added that changes in Umno should begin by building the strength of the younger generation, the heirs of the struggle.
“Youth should be injected with idealism, and sacrificial spirit based on true Islamic principles, as underlined by Umno’s struggle since its inception.”
