MELAKA: An official announcement on the results of Umno's election for the 2018-2021 session could come in as early as 1am on July 1.
This was said by Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
He said a new method is being employed this time around for the collection of the results for the president, deputy president, vice presidents, Supreme Council and division chiefs' posts.
"We believe the new method we are using to collect the results for this election will be faster and more accurate.
"The Umno delegates' meetings at all 191 divisions nationwide are expected to conclude at 5pm today," he said at the Umno Masjid Tanah division meeting in Kampung Pulau, here, today.
As for the Masjid Tanah Umno division, Ab Rauf won the division's chief post uncontested.
Also recording uncontested wins are the division's permanent chairman Md Jaya Kadir and deputy permanent chairman Amir Hussin Yaakob.
Meanwhile, Datuk Wira Ismail Othman is the division's deputy chief, Datuk Latipah Omar is the division's Wanita chief and Dayang Senandung Mo'min is the division's Puteri chief.
Commenting on the two candidates sacked after offering themselves for the posts of Umno Bagan division chief and vice chief, Ab Rauf said the decision was made after the two were accused of having conspired with the then Opposition in the 14th General Election (GE14).
"Therefore, it was decided automatically that any party members conspiring, supporting or proposing any candidates or parties (from the Opposition), they will be fired immediately," he said.
The two are Bagan Umno Youth vice chief Mohamad Affendi Azni and the division's committee member Shahbani Mat Diasa.
