KUALA LUMPUR: DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke will be the party's new parliamentary leader, replacing Lim Kit Siang.
Lim, in a statement on the party’s official website, said the decision was made by the DAP central working committee (CWC).
“I will now just be a government supporter in Parliament for the first time since I was elected Kota Melaka member of parliament in 1969,” he said.
Lim said the decision to appoint Loke as DAP parliamentary chief was made because he was a senior leader within the party.
However, when contacted by the New Straits Times Press for comments, Loke said he was unaware of the appointment.
“No... I cannot comment on this as I was not at the (CWC) meeting,” he said, declining further comment.
Meanwhile, Lim said DAP would focus its attention on Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Perlis as “frontline” states in the strengthening of unity, justice, freedom and democracy in Malaysia.
“This effort will be done in cooperation with other Pakatan Harapan component parties,” he said.
