Kota Raja Umno strategises moves to wrest Sungai Kandis

SHAH ALAM: Kota Raja Umno has begun strategising new moves in anticipation of the Sungai Kandis state seat by-election set to take place next month.

Its Wanita chief Suhaila M. Zin said discussions are ongoing to ensure that their strategies this time would be effective and they are able to wrest the state seat from PKR.

“This by-election is very important because it will become a bench mark for the party. All of us will be focused on this by-election following the change of government from Barisan Nasional (BN) to Pakatan Harapan (PH),” she told the NSTP today.

Suhaila, who was once Selangor Umno Puteri chief, said several issues would be raised during the by-election campaign and it included PH’s manifesto in the 14th General Election (GE14) which had promised to reduce petrol prices should they make it to Putrajaya.

“We will play up national issues that were promised by PH, especially those that was said will be fulfilled within 100 days of their administration.

“For issues specific to the Sungai Kandis state constituency, it is still being deliberated,” added Suhaila.

The Sungai Kandis by-election was announced following the death of its assemblyman, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei, 50, of lymphoma on July 2.

In GE14, Shuhaimi won with 23,998 votes in a four cornered fight.

He defeated BN's Datuk Kamaruzzaman Johari (11,518), PAS’ Mohd Yusof Abdullah (7,573) and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s (PRM) Hanafiah Husin (76).
