KUALA LUMPUR: Umno's highest decision making body, will now be known as the working committee council.
In announcing this change, the party's secretary-general, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the previous name of Umno Supreme Council is no longer suitable as the party is now an opposition.
"Previously, we were in the government and the word supreme was necessary as we were also a decision and policy making body," he said at press conference at the Umno headquarters, here.
With this change, he said each and every working committe members in the council will be given a portfolio to look into with the assistance of a secretariat council.
The setting up of Umno's advisory council led by party veteran Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh will be with eight other councils, eight comittees and its members, 10 secretariats and their respective duties and roles.
Following this change, Annuar added many reinvention of Umno will be made soon.
"We plan to make big amendments to our party's constitution with regards to our logo, slogan, new membership entry age and most importantly, our struggle."
He said amendments include looking into how, Umno's affiliate members or those supportive of the party, can join as a coalition.
Annuar announced that the party will allow all state liaison chairmen and division chiefs to handle new members from the age of 16.
"We will be giving them the empowerment to handle membership recruitment and if for emergency or appeal cases, need to be referred back to party headquarters," he said .
