Wanita UMNO supports the formation of Islamic affairs committee

SHAH ALAM: The formation of a high level Islamic Affairs Committee at the federal level consented by the Conference of Rulers is a step in the right direction in efforts to empower Islamic institutions and its position.

Wanita Umno Chief Datuk Noraini Ahmad said such a move was needed as religious issues involving Islam is currently being widely talked about at the moment.

She added that there has been a cause of worry among Muslims on the position of Islam although it is guaranteed under the Federal Constitution.

“We (Wanita Umno) are supportive of the setting up of the committee in a bid to raise the position of Islam in the country,” she said.

She added that some Muslims felt that the position of Islam, as the official religion, is being threatened based on the political situation under the Pakatan Harapan administration.

Noraini was commenting on the setting up of the five-member committee, which was agreed by the Conference of Rulers, to improve all federal-level Islamic institutions in the country.

The committee is made up of figures from administrative, religious and academic fields.

Members of the high-level committee are appointed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, with the agreement of the Conference of Rulers, while the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal will act as its secretariat.

Earlier, Noraini and a group of Umno Wanita members visited Mohd Yusof Abdullah at his home in Jalan Kebun, here.

In the 14th General Election, Yusof had contested in the Sungai Kandis state constituency seat under the Pas ticket.

On Barisan Nasional’s campaign in the Sungai Kandis by-election, Noraini said the coalition was optimistic with the ability of candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam in attracting the support of voters, here.

She added that she was confident that Lokman will be able to garner support from voters in the constituency, especially from those who are disappointed with Pakatan Harapan which had yet to fulfill its promises.
