KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno must embark on a new era or "renaissance" not just to strengthen Umno, but to empower the Malaysian political landscape.
The wing's chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said this revival was not merely a cosmetic one, but a revival of the spirit, a renewal of the mind, and an enlightenment of vision.
"We are initiating the revival of Wanita Umno as a movement that will harness the energy, talent, and potential of women to elevate Malaysia to a higher level.
"The revival of women in Umno is not just about meeting quotas or external demands. It is about optimising the best talents within the party to face future challenges.
"It is about ensuring that the voices of women, who represent nearly half of our voters, are being heard and respected."
She said this in her policy speech at the Wanita Umno delegates' meeting here today.
Noraini, who is also the Women, Family, and Community Development Deputy Minister, said the wing must do more than just encourage women's participation in politics.
She added that they must actively provide leadership opportunities for talented women at all levels within the party, and must invest in leadership development programmes specifically for women.
In her speech, she also told delegates to change the party culture to become more inclusive and value the contributions of women.
"This revival will not only strengthen Umno but also empower Malaysian politics as a whole.
"It will bring new perspectives to important issues such as education, economic development, and healthcare.
"Let us make this a turning point. Let us build a stronger, more inclusive Umno that is better prepared to face various challenges," she added.
