KOTA BARU: Pas’s decision to give way to Umno/Barisan Nasional (BN) to contest in the Sungai Kandis by-election recently proved that there is a good partnership between the two parties.
“This cooperation or coordination can also be seen during Parliament sittings.
“So, it would not surprise me if they decide to work closely in the (15th) general election to defeat Pakatan Harapan (PH),” said Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) communications director Khalid Abdul Samad.
Khalid, who is also the Federal Territories Minister and Shah Alam MP, said this to reporters at Kampung Pulau Keseng here, last night.
Despite the partnership, Khalid believes PH will win the two upcoming by-elections in Balakong and Seri Setia.
“We expect a tough fight, but we believe our candidates will achieve victory, especially in Balakong,” he said.
The two simultaneous by-elections will have Aug 18 as nomination day and Sept 8 as polling day.
It is believed that BN will give way to Pas and allow it to field a candidate in the Seri Setia poll.
The Balakong state seat became vacant following the death of its incumbent, Eddie Ng Tien Chee, in a road crash on July 20.
The Seri Setia by-election was called after its incumbent, Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, died earlier this month from colon cancer.
