Balakong by-election: Kit Siang says MCA not capable of check-and-balance

BANGI: MCA is not capable of exercising check-and-balance unless the party fully reforms, said DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

“Like it or not, MCA should reform (carry out changes) if they (leaders) want to become a party that has credibility and to regain the people’s trust.

“Same goes for Umno; if they want to change and gain back the people’s support. They need to reform and change,” he told the reporters at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Balakong by-election campaigning programme here today, accompanying PH candidate Wong Siew Ki.

He was commenting on the less support by the people on MCA and the party was not relevant after the 14th General-Election (GE14).

Lim hoped that Balakong constituents would vote for PH on the by-election day on Sept 8.

There are some 61,000 registered voters in the constituency.

“One vote from each person is considered as a form of appreciation to the late Eddie Ng Tian Chee (who was the seat incumbent),” he said.

Lim also said the by-election would also be the second chance for the voters to show that they still want PH to fulfil the vision of new Malaysia.

Asked on the low voter turnout during the Sungai Kandis by-election polling day, Lim said the PH candidate for the coming by-election would be doing her best to get people to come out and exercise their right to vote.

“We are concerned about this matter. About 85 per cent of (registered) voters came out in the general election.

“However, (for) this by-election, maybe to (some of) them, there is no need to cast their votes because they know we (PH) can win,” said the Iskandar Puteri Member of Parliament.
