'MGR' makes appearance at PD by-election nomination day

PORT DICKSON: Even with big names and personalities present at the nomination centre for the Port Dickson by-election today, two stage actors stole the show with their flamboyance and style.

One donned an outlandish tailor-made outfit similar to the legendary Tamil movie hero the late M. G. Ramachandran or MGR, while the other was draped in the Pakatan Harapan flag with shades of blue, red and white which doubled up as her saree.

Both MGR Suresh Vasu Pillay, 50 and Dewamalar Arumugam, 45, arrived at the Port Dickson Municipal Council Hall here as early as 7.30am to give their support to Pakatan Harapan candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is contesting the by-election, while at the same time drawing attention for themselves.

Besides Anwar, former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, and Anwar’s former personal assistant, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, are contesting as independents in the seven-cornered fight.

Suresh was in a tight short-sleeved red shirt with a matching scarf, white trousers, and a shiny pair of red shoes and dark glasses.

He had made the early morning trip from Petaling Jaya ,Selangor, especially for Anwar, whom he claimed was also an MGR fan.

“I am impersonating MGR, to support Anwar and to inspire him during the campaign period in Port Dickson” Suresh told Bernama here today.

MGR regarded as one of the most influential actors in the South Indian film industry, later became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Dewamalar, from Puchong said she was clad in the PH saree because she was a loyal Anwar supporter.

Both Suresh and Dewamalar were surrounded by people at the nomination centre who wanted to take “wefies” and photographs with the duo. - Bernama
