UMNO vice-president, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, confirmed that from next year onwards, the state UMNO committee will be chaired by the new chairman.

He however declined to reveal as to who will be appointed to the top state post.

He said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had agreed to hand over the party's number one post to a leader from the state.

"The names of leaders who will be responsible for steering the party at the state level will be announced in the near future.

"But I want to announce that the state Umno meeting early next year will be chaired by a new chairman and is expected to be held in Kemaman," he said.

Mahdzir said this after chairing the state UMNO meeting as well as officiating the Besut Division’s ‘Himpunan Bangkit Hala Tuju Umno, here today.

Present was Besut Umno chief Nawi Mohamad; Besut MP Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and Ahmad who is also Kemaman Umno division chief.

Mahdzir, said the change in the party's number one post at the state level was an ordinary process after the party's top leadership at the central level was satisfied with the leadership unity in Terengganu.

He said the appointment letter for the new state chairman will be handed over in the near future.

"You may be able to predict the new state Umno chairman, it is not necessarily for me to announce.

"What you need to know is that, Kemaman Umno will be hosting the upcoming state Umno meeting," he said.
