Sri Aman MP jumps ship

KCHING: Sri Aman Member of Parliament Datuk Masir Kujat has quit Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) today.

Masir said the move was because he wanted to be in a party that could unite all races in Sarawak.

The former Deputy Home Minister said he was confident that PSB was the best party and platform for him to fight for the Dayak community in Sarawak.

PSB was formerly known as the United People's Party (UPP) afterwhich a rebranding exercise adopted a name change, among others. It is a splinter of the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP).

“PSB is an independent local-based party that can speak up for every Sarawakians, regardless of race or religioun. Therefore, I have decided to join them to fight for our people’s rights,” he said in statement, here, today.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) friendly party is led by Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh who is also Sarawak finance minister.

“I also agree and support the stand of PSB leaders to pledge their full support to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg,” Masir added.

Meanwhile, former Selangau MP Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun and former Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyalau Badak, who were both sacked from PRS before the general election last year, also made the same move.

Meanwhile, PRS President Tan Sri James Masing when contacted said his party leaders and members were free to move around and “jump ship” as this was a democratic nation.

“I can tell them the meaning of service to the community, but I can’t guide them to be grateful,” he said.

“During my time as the leader of PRS, I have helped many of my ‘boys’ to their respective positions of importance and advised them what needed to be done as leaders. One thing of paramount importance is to be grateful to the institution or person who has helped them,” said Masing, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister.
