IPOH: Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has been appointed the 13th Perak Menteri Besar, Comptroller of the Royal Household, Colonel Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamad Nor (R), said today.
Abdul Rahim said the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, assented to appoint Ahmad Faizal as Menteri Besar as he had gained majority support from state assemblymen.
"The Sultan has set 3.30pm today for the swearing-in ceremony, which will be held at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar," he said in a statement.
This is the second time the 49-year-old Perak Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman has been named Perak Menteri Besar.
On Tuesday, the Chenderiang assemblyman submitted his resignation letter as Perak Menteri Besar and all other posts to the Sultan of Perak after Bersatu, Umno and Pas joined forces to form a Perikatan Nasional state government with a 32-seat majority.
Ahmad Faizal attended Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Cator Avenue and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Anderson in Ipoh, before pursuing Business Management at Edith Cowan University Edith in Perth, Australia.
He also served as Special Officer for the Kedah Menteri Besar; and later, Special Officer for the Health Minister. In addition, Ahmad Faizal was on a thinking panel for Special Affairs Department (Jasa) for the Multimedia and Communication Ministry.
In the 14th General Election (GE14), he won the Chenderiang state seat in a three-cornered fight with a 39-vote majority.
He also won the Tambun parliamentary seat with a majority of 5,320, also in a three cornered fight.
In the GE14, Pakatan Harapan (PH), led by Ahmad Faizal, garnered 29 seats against Barisan Nasional (BN), which won 27 seats, while Pas secured three seats.
PH formed the Perak state government after gaining a simple majority of 31 seats following the entrance of two assemblymen from BN into the ruling coalition.
