KUALA LUMPUR: Istana Negara has said Opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not submitted the names of members of parliament (MPs) whom he claims support him.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said Anwar had only presented the number of MPs whom he claimed were behind him.
"During the session (with the king) that lasted around 25 minutes, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented the number of MPs whom he claimed support him. However, he has not submitted the names of these MPs to strengthen his claim.
"Therefore, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah (Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah) has advised Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to respect and abide by the legal procedures as enshrined in the Federal Constitution," he said in a statement.
Ahmad Fadil said, Anwar's audience with the King was supposed to have taken place on Sept 22, but had to be postponed since the King was undergoing medical treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) from Sept 21 to Oct 3.
Earlier today, Anwar announced that he had presented legitimate documents to the King to prove that he commands a "formidable, convincing majority" among parliamentarians.
Anwar also said that the King would look through the documents and also call in party leaders to get their views.
"Meanwhile, we must remember that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has lost the majority and therefore, it would be appropriate for him to resign from the prime minister's post," he told reporters at Le Meridien Hotel.
