PUTRAJAYA: The special meeting between Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and heads of political parties supporting Perikatan Nasional at Perdana Putra complex here today had convened without the attendance Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Sources told Berita Harian that an invitation for the special meeting was extended to Zahid, who is also the Bagan Datuk member of parliament, last night.
"To my knowledge, Datuk Seri (Zahid) was to be present for the meeting today, but I am not sure why he did not turn up for it.
"To my knowledge, there were no representatives from Umno who had appeared on behalf of the president, to attend the meeting," the sources said.
Reporters started to gather at the entrance of the complex at 8am today after news broke about the special meeting between the prime minister and head of political parties friendly to PN following a meeting chaired by Muhyiddin with Cabinet members.
Vehicles bearing MIC president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran and his MCA counterpart Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong as well as Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang were seen entering the complex about 9am.
A few hours later, the motorcade bearing Vigneswaran and Hadi were seen leaving the complex.
As of 11am, there has yet to be any sign of Zahid entering the complex.
