Ahmad Yakob on Pas' relationship with Umno: Up to top leadership

KOTA BARU: Pas will leave it to the party's top leadership regarding its relationship with Umno in Muafakat Nasional (MN).

Pas deputy spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said any decision made by the party leaders would be accepted by members at all levels, including the state level.

"For Kelantan Pas, we will follow the decision made by our top leaders and so far, we have yet to receive any instructions on the matter.

"What I can say is that during the 22 months of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, we can see huge differences in (the interest of) Malays and Muslims in the country and we are thankful for that," he said.

Ahmad said this after delivering his New Year message to the state civil servants here today.

He described the change of the government from Pakatan Harapan to PN as a blessing to all.

"People should be able to see the real goals and directions (of the government) now," he added.

Pas recently called its political allies to adopt an open mind, compromise and learn from past experiences for the sake of the people who long for good leadership with integrity.

Its secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan stressed that Pas would refrain from languishing into polemics that would descend the country into disunity and instability, subsequently threatening peace and the well-being of the people.

He said Pas would continue to empower Muafakat Nasional apart from defending the Perikatan Nasional government.

The Kota Baru MP also urged its political allies to remain committed and honest in managing the country's administration, especially during the challenging period due to Covid-19.

Umno election director Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman had said that the party would only work with Pas and not Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Tajuddin said this when commenting on a statement made by Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, that Pas wanted to continue working with Bersatu.
