PENAMPANG: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) is eyeing up to five state seats in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the party had wanted more seats but after negotiations, STAR was given only five.
"There are several components (in the Perikatan Nasional coalition) which we need to share the (five) seats with, but we also hope those seats will be given to local parties
"I would not want to tell you which seats but for sure I will defend my seat," said the Keningau member of parliament after releasing fish fry's into the Moyog river at Kampung Rugading for its traditional river rehabilitation known as the "Tagal" system.
On whether there are any opposition or independently elected representatives, Jeffrey said it was not something unusual when it was time for an election.
On the delayed implementation of Undi18 and automatic voter registration, the Sabah deputy chief minister said it would affect the political landscape significantly.
When asked about comments by Parti Warisan Sabah President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal that Jeffrey was mum about the Malaysian Agreement 1963, Jeffrey said he had a different way of doing things now.
"I am not quiet but just not repeating the way of doing things because I am now in the government.
"It is not election time and we are trying to do as much as possible in finding ways to get what we want, from the inside," he said, adding that he sits in the special committee for MA63.
