PKR told to postpone tomorrow's national congress

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Security Council (NSC) has told PKR to postpone its national congress which is due to be held tomorrow to a later date.

Congress director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said PKR received a letter from the NSC at 6.21pm yesterday and was also informed verbally by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on the postponement.

"Previously, the NSC said it had no issue with the congress being held virtually through a letter dated May 27, 2021.

"The central leadership therefore decided to postpone tomorrow's national congress," he said in a statement today.

According to Nik Nazmi, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will provide further information on the postponement through a special address on PKR's official Facebook page tomorrow at 11am.

"He will also touch on other issues such as the economy and Covid-19 as well as current political issues."

The PKR congress started yesterday with the party's women wing holding its first fully virtual meeting. Its youth wing also held its congress today.

The national congress was due to be held tomorrow where about 2,400 PKR delegates and leaders nationwide were expected to participate in the congress through the Zoom application from their homes.
