PONTIAN: The PKR National Congress, originally scheduled for this month but postponed in the light of the ongoing floods affecting several states, will still be held in Johor, no later than the first quarter of next year.
PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said the congress is expected to be held after the northeast monsoon ends.
"We understand that holding the congress now is not appropriate because many people are still affected by the flood disaster.
"However, PKR will still hold the congress in Johor, but the exact date will be determined after the northeast monsoon. It is likely to take place by the first quarter of next year at the latest," he said.
Fahmi said this during a press conference after his work visit to inspect the Tarana proof of concept project site at the Kampung Seri Bunian Community Hall today.
Previously, the 2024 PKR National Congress was scheduled to be held on Dec 15, at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Baru, while the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and Wanita congresses were scheduled a day earlier, at a separate location.
On Nov 30, PKR decided to postpone the congress, with the decision being made during a meeting of the PKR Political Bureau and Central Leadership Council earlier in the day.
In a related development, Fahmi said that the party's central leadership council had decided to hold a special congress to amend the party's constitution, which will take place tomorrow in Shah Alam.
