Gerakan with PN govt, says party president

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan will continue throwing its full support behind the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Its president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said the party would remain with PN, despite the move by several members of parliament who had withdrawn their support for the government.

"I am confident and of the opinion that the prime minister as well as the PN machineries can resolve the political turmoil triggered by certain quarters," he said in a statement today.

Gerakan, he said, also commended the unwavering stand by the prime minister during the political turmoil to preserve the supremacy of the Federal Constitution and defending the institution of the Constitutional Monarchy.

"The party also welcomes the prime minister's stand point of not interfering in the management of court cases. This reflects that he is a leader with principle and honest in discharging his duties," Lau said.

The role and responsibility of a leader in taking care of a country was never easy, he said, adding that one had to look after the welfare of all.

Lau also said today's special address by the prime minister had shown that Muhyddin commanded majority support from members in the Dewan Rakyat.

"Hence, let the government focus on efforts to help the people and curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country," he said.
