KUALA LUMPUR: Warisan has affirmed its political pact with Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and is opening doors to similar cooperation with other political parties.
Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal today said, however, no decision had been made so far to extend the current political pact with other parties, including those from Pakatan Harapan and Pejuang.
"So far, we have discussed (confirmed) with Muda about the (Warisan-Muda) cooperation. But we have yet to reach a decision the rest (working with other parties).
"With Muda, this our (first) choice (on political pact). Hence, we will make sure to strengthen our 'house' (the cooperation) before moving forward.
"But it does not mean we are shutting the doors to others. In politics, anything can happen but we must also realise that there are parties with the same values as ours," he told reporters after launching the Warisan national division at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur here, today.
On Sept 7, Shafie announced that Warisan would be launching its political cooperation with Muda.
He had previously extended an offer to Muda to contest under Warisan if the latter failed to register as a political party.
Shafie also said Warisan would need to be practical concerning the setting up of its divisions across Peninsular Malaysia.
"We cannot assume that the party will contest in all states. We have to be pragmatic.
"I have been in politics for a long time. We need to carry out a review on this matter with my friends, the Muda president, to see how we can make this happen.
"For the time being, we have yet to appoint the division chiefs. The party also has not even announced its liaison chairman," he said.
Shafie also emphasised that Warisan was never a party just for Sabahans as it was meant to champion the interests of all races.
"Do not get it wrong, Warisan is never just for Sabahans, it is for everyone. The party was even registered under the Registrar of Societies (RoS) in Putrajaya.
"If Pas or Umno and even PKR can contest in Sabah and Sarawak why Warisan cannot field their candidates in the peninsula," he said.
