JOHOR BARU: Both Pakatan Harapan (PH) Johor and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) have agreed in principle to work together in the upcoming Johor state election, which is expected to be held soon.
PH Johor chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said the agreement between both parties was reached in a joint discussion with MUDA president Syed Saddiq Syed Abd Rahman, recently.
"An agreement in principle has been reached with MUDA to work with PH Johor if the state polls are held in the state soon.
"Further discussions will be held with the top leadership of all PH member parties, including in regards to seat distribution and other preparations.
"Amanah president Mohamad Sabu is also expected to come down to Johor Baru to attend a party meeting held either Wednesday or Thursday for further discussions on the Johor PRN," he said.
The Johor State Assembly comprises 56 seats with Umno (14), DAP (14), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (11), PKR (7), Parti Amanah Negara (6), MIC (2) and Pas (1).
The Johor government has a slim majority with 28 seats compared to the 27 seats held by the opposition bloc.
The state government's position became tenuous following the death of Kempas state assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian, who is also the former Mentri Besar, on Dec 21.
Meanwhile, Aminolhuda, who is also the Parit Yaani state assemblyman, said that Amanah Johor was also detailing the party's candidates for the state polls.
"The candidates are already there but we will wait for the party's top leadership to finalise the list apart from discussions with other PH parties," said the Johor Parti Amanah Negara chairman.
This will be MUDA's first electoral outing since it was registered as a political party on Dec 23, 2020.
It currently has one elected representative in the form of Syed Saddiq who is the Muar Member of Parliament.
