Question remains on who is next Johor Menteri Besar

JOHOR BARU: The status surrounding the 19th Johor Menteri Besar remains a question mark.

This was after Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi kept mum after returning from an audience with Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, this afternoon.

Zahid was seen returning to the Johor Umno Liaison Office at 4pm this afternoon after an hour-long audience with the state ruler.

The Umno President and his Deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Johor Umno Chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad were then sequestered at the state party headquarters for a discussion.

All the party leaders were seen coming down half an hour later before they rushed off from the Johor Umno Liaison Office in separate vehicles.

Efforts to get comments from Zahid, Mohamad and Hasni proved futile as the trio kept mum when asked by media practitioners who had been staking out the state Umno headquarters since 2.30pm.

It is understood that the three leaders headed to the Menteri Besar's Official Residence in Saujana to hold a closed-door discussion following the meeting with the state ruler.

Johor Umno Working Secretary, Pandak Ahmad, also declined to comment further when approached by media practitioners.

"I can't comment anything. I'm so sorry.

"Wait, if there is any announcement, the Johor Umno Office will be informed later," he said.

The 15th Johor state election on Saturday saw BN obtain a comfortable two-third mandate when it won 40 out of 56 state assembly seats contested.

PH managed to win 11 seats, followed by PN three, PKR and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) one seat each.
