KUALA LUMPUR: Umno's top leadership has achieved a consensus on the prospective date for 15th General Election (GE15), the party's Supreme Council member Isham Jalil said.
However, Isham told the New Straits Times that the party leadership has not disclosed the date to Umno division chiefs during the meeting held in Menara Dato Onn, here, today.
"Umno is now going into Fifth Gear. The division chiefs have also echoed the party's hope to hold GE15 by year-end.
"Personally, I feel GE15 should be called even before the 2023 Budget is tabled. But, it is up to the top leadership to make the call.
"And, since the Opposition has been playing up the flood excuse, I would suggest that we hold the GE15 even before the monsoon period starts.
"That will allow a stable and strong government to steer us through a crisis period," he said, when met here, today.
Earlier today, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also party vice-president, met Umno division chiefs and division leaders from the party's Wanita, Youth Puteri wings today.
