GE15: Gerakan to use PN logo

GEORGE TOWN: It's final. Gerakan will use the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo in the 15th general election.

Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau said the party has decided to use PN's logo as more people now know they are part of the coalition.

"Before this, many people still thought that we are part of Barisan Nasional (BN).

"But after the Melaka and Johor state elections, more people are aware that we are now in PN.

"So we have decided to use PN's logo in GE15 and this decision is final," he told newsmen here today.

He was met after the launch of the PN Bayan Baru parliamentary operations room.

Also present was state Gerakan chairman Oh Tong Keong.

Prior to this, Oh had said that Penang Gerakan would bring its grassroots voices to the PN central working committee (CEC) on the intention to contest using its own logo in GE15.

He said he would pursue the matter since it was what the party delegates wanted.

Meanwhile, Lau said Penang Gerakan was eyeing five parliamentary seats in GE15-- Bukit Bendera, Jelutong, Bayan Baru, Tanjung and Batu Kawan-- and that he would contest in one of them.

Nationwide, he added, the party was looking to field its candidates in more than 18 parliamentary seats.

"We will announce the candidates list once everything has been finalised and after going through the necessary vetting processes.

"And we will field about 80 per cent of new and young candidates. What is important is that they are corruption-free," he added.
