KUALA LUMPUR: DAP had warned incumbent Bentong MP that he would be sacked from the party if he contests the 15th General Election (GE15) as an independent
Party secretary general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said Wong Tack's membership would be automatically revoked if he contested as an independent
Wong Tack has prior to this announced that he intended to contest even though he had been dropped as a candidate by DAP.
His stand comes in the wake of the party announcing Young Syefura Othman as the Pakatan Harapan candidate for Bentong.
Wong Tack won the Bentong seat in the last general election by beating MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai by more than 2,000 votes.
DAP leadership had before this opened to Wang Tack about contesting in Cameron Highlands but he refused.
Loke has said Young Syefura, 33, was more popular with the locals compared to Wong Tack.
He said, this is based on a survey carried out by Merdeka Centre.
The Pahang DAP State Committee, he said, had also recommended Young Syefura as a choice candidate.
Young Syefura, who is popularly known as Rara, won the Ketari state seat in the Bentong parliamentary constituency in the last general election.
Speaking in Melaka yesterday, Loke also announced Khoo Poay Tiong, who is Melaka DAP vice chairman, as the candidate for Kota Melaka.
Khoo, who is the incumbent for the seat, was described by Loke as a choice candidate due to his excellent service in the constituency.
He said Khoo had also recorded excellent attendance in Parliament besides managing constituency allocation in a transparent manner.
Khoo won Kota Melaka with a 49,174 votes majority in the last general election.
