GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow tested positive for Covid-19 today.
Taking to his Facebook page, the DAP chairman said he conducted self-screening this morning and the results came back positive.
"I have obtained the necessary guidelines and advice from the medical team and have been given the necessary medication.
"I pray that all is well and that everyone will abide by the standard operating procedures for their own safety as well as that of their family and the community," he said.
On Sunday, Chow was named by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke for the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).
This was after incumbent member of parliament (MP) Kasthuri Patto said she would not be defending the seat.
Penang DAP secretary Lim Hui Ying, who is party chairman Lim Guan Eng's sister, has been fielded for the Tanjong parliamentary seat, previously held by Chow.
Chow is currently under quarantine. The Election Commission has fixed Nov 5 as nomination day for GE15.
There are 13 parliamentary seats in Penang and DAP will contest in seven of them.
