GE15: Bandar Tun Razak incumbent Kamarudin Jaffar vows to defend seat

KUALA LUMPUR: Incumbent Bandar Tun Razak member of parliament Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar is determined to defend his seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Kamarudin, who faces a three-cornered fight against Pakatan Harapan (PH)'s Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah and Barisan Nasional (BN)'s Datuk Chew Yin Keen, said the people were aware of his contributions in the last term.

"I believe that the voters here understand and are aware of the work I have done. They can make their own choices based on my track record.

"Nevertheless, I am grateful to be nominated and hope that Perikatan Nasional (PN) will gain a new mandate from the people in the constituency," he said after the P124 candidates' nomination process at Institut Latihan DBKL today.

Regarding his readiness for the contest, he said: "I expected a three-cornered fight. However, I view it positively."

When asked about his battle against PKR candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Kamarudin said he would have the upper hand as the PKR council chairman was considered an "outsider".

"The people here know where she contested in the previous election and which constituency she represented, (hence) I hope this will benefit me as a PN candidate.

"We are also expecting voters, especially BN supporters, to also make good judgments based on the nation's political situation and the coalition's record (in casting their votes)," he said.

In the 2018 general election, Kamarudin, who contested under PH and PKR ticket, secured 41,126 votes to defeat BN's Adnan Abu Senan, who gained 21,196 votes, and Pas' Dr Rosni Adam, who had 7,884 votes.
