GE15: Negri follows Selangor's example, declares Nov 18 a holiday

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government has followed its Selangor counterparts in declaring a state holiday on Nov 18, the day before polling day for the 15th General Election.

State Secretary Datuk Dr Razali Ab Malik said in a statement the public holiday was to encourage people to vote on polling day.

He said the decision was made today.

Earlier, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had announced that Nov 18 would be a state holiday to allow Selangor residents and workers to return to their respective hometowns.

He said this was because there were many Malaysians working and residing in Selangor whose hometowns were from different states.

Yesterday, caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said the government will study a proposal to declare a nationwide holiday on Nov 18.
