GE15: BN's Padang Serai candidate suspends campaign activities in respect of PH candidate's demise

PADANG SERAI: The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat has instructed his election machinery to suspend campaign activities today in respect of the late M. Karupaiya who passed away today.

Datuk C. Sivarraajh said he made the decision immediately upon learning the devastating news about Karupaiya, who was to have defended the seat he won in 2018.

"I am very sad to hear the devastating news for his family, supporters and the people in Padang Serai.

"I have asked my election machinery to suspend all campaign work in respect of Karupaiya's passing," he said when met at the Padang Serai BN election command centre here today.

Meanwhile, Sivarraajh said he was ready should the Padang Serai seat election process be postponed to a later date.

"I am still waiting for an official announcement from the Election Commission (EC) but I was told by unofficial sources that the election process will be postponed to another date and the nomination date will be decided later by the EC," he said.

Sivarraajh said since he had been working in Padang Serai for quite some time, he would will maintain his momentum until a new date for the polls is fixed.

Karupaiya, 69, died of a heart attack today.

Kulim police chief Superintendent Redzuan Salleh confirmed that Karupaiya breathed his last at 2.27pm in Kulim Hospital.
