KUALA LUMPUR: MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan said he has his own choice on who should be the country's next prime minister and lead the new government.
However, the newly-elected Tapah member of parliament (MP) said the final decision on whether it should be Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin depends on the Barisan Nasional leadership.
"I have my own personal choice, but we have to look at the party's decision.
"Even though I have my own choice, we still need to toe the line and follow the party's choice," he told reporters after arriving at Menara Dato Onn, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.
The BN leadership has gathered there to decide on the path the coalition should take following the outcome of the general elections GE15.
The leaders of the two rival coalitions won the most number of seats during the elections on Saturday.
PH won 82 seats while PN got 73. However, both coalitions need the support of parliamentarians from other parties including BN which won 30 seats, to have a clear simple majority of 112 seats or more to form the next government.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has given party leaders and coalitions heads until 2pm today to propose their preferred candidate of choice for the top post of prime minister.
