KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) Supreme Council last night proposed that its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, be replaced with his deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
This was revealed in a statement today by MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, who also called for Zahid's resignation.
Chong said this in response to a letter that went viral this morning, purportedly showing Zahid writing to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong saying that BN members of parliament would support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister.
"I wish to emphasise that the claims in the letter are completely out of line with the decision made by the BN Supreme Council in both meetings on Nov 22," said Chong.
"Zahid had gone against the collective decision of the BN Supreme Council yesterday and did not communicate BN's resolution correctly to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"MCA believes that Zahid is no longer fit to continue leading BN and we call for his resignation from his position as BN chairman, to be replaced by Mohamad Hassan, as proposed at the BN Supreme Council meeting last night," he said.
Chong also reiterated BN's stand that it would not support Anwar or Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to be the next prime minister.
"In last night's BN Supreme Council meeting, MCA and other BN component parties were questioning why Zahid went against BN's resolution.
"At first, Zahid was in denial, but later he admitted when evidence was produced."
