KUANTAN: All eight Pahang Pakatan Harapan (PH) elected representatives today signed a statutory declaration backing state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail to continue serving as the Menteri Besar.
The eight, six from DAP and two from PKR, signed the SDs in the presence of a lawyer and witnessed by a commissioner of oath.
PKR's Sim Chon Siang, who won the Teruntum state seat for the third consecutive term in the 15th general election, said:
"We signed the SDs without coercion and we sincerely support Wan Rosdy to lead the Pahang government."
Besides Sim, the other PKR elected representative is Chan Chun Kuang from Semambu, while the six DAP elected representatives are Woo Chee Wan from Mentakab, Ho Chi Yang (Tanah Rata), Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (Tras), Thomas Su Keong Siong (Ketari), Leong Yu Man (Triang) and Lee Chin Chen (Bilut).
It was learnt that the SDs will be presented to the Pahang palace to pave the way to form the new BN-PH government.
Earlier today, PH Pahang issued a statement saying its chairman Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shaari met Wan Rosdy yesterday (Nov 22) to discuss efforts to form the state government.
In Saturday's general election, PN won 17 seats compared to eight in the previous general election.
BN won 16 seats while PH secured eight seats. No party obtained a simple majority of 21 seats to form the state government, resulting in a hung state assembly.
The Pahang assembly has 42 seats, but only 41 were contested in the state election that ran simultaneously with GE15, following the death of Tioman PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli on Saturday.
Wan Rosdy was named the Pahang Menteri Besar after the 14th general election in 2018.
