KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's offer for Pas to reestablish cooperation with Umno, excluding its president, lacks sincerity, says Umno vice president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
He argued that Hadi, as Pas president, was prioritising his own party's interests rather than the unity of the Malay community and Islam.
"If Hadi is truly sincere, why would he sideline our president? Is he attempting to divide Umno, which is growing stronger each day?" said Wan Rosdy in a Facebook post today.
He said that Umno had a clear leadership structure, with its president at the forefront.
If Pas genuinely sought collaboration, it should engage directly with Umno's president, he said.
"Umno's president remains steadfast, speaks with consistency, and has shown unwavering loyalty through challenges," he added.
Wan Rosdy's remarks come in response to Hadi's comments during the 70th Pas Muktamar in Kerdau, Temerloh, where Hadi said that Pas was still open to cooperating with Umno.
While Umno has always been open to collaboration with other parties, including Pas, Wan Rosdy said that negotiations must be genuine and inclusive of Umno's leadership.
"Pas should not approach Umno only out of desperation. During the Muafakat Nasional partnership, Pas did not show sincerity in working with Umno. As vice president, I will not support any negotiation that bypasses our leader or causes division within Umno," he said.
