MPs can attend Dewan Rakyat without a tie tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat members attending the sitting of the lower house tomorrow have been exempted from wearing a tie. The exemption was given the green light by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul on the request of elected representatives.

"For those wearing a suit, I exempt them from wearing a tie," he said in his remarks before adjourning proceedings for the day.

Johari added that members of parliament attending the Dewan Rakyat session tomorrow can also chose to wear a baju melayu instead of a suit.

The guidelines from the Malaysian Parliament on the dress code for men state that their attire should comprise a coat, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt with a tie.

The colour for trousers and coats — MPs are encourage to go with black or darker hues--should match each other.

For women, their outfit code states that they should wear a coat, shirt, long pants or long skirt in black or dark colours.

On Thursdays, MPs are allowed to wear batik clothes.
