KJ sacked for sabotaging BN's GE15 campaign by disparaging party

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was sacked from the party for disparaging and sabotaging Barisan Nasional's (BN) campaign during the 15th General Election (GE15).

The former Rembau member of parliament had allegedly accused Umno of losing its way and portrayed himself as the saviour.

Khairy continued with the allegations during in the election campaign for GE15.

A party insider said the Umno Disciplinary Board, in presiding over the then BN candidate for the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat, had in their investigation several evidences including video recordings of him supposedly disparaged the party.

Meanwhile, the sources also said former Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar, who was asked to sit out the Tanjong Karang parliamentary seat race during the polls, had allegedly 'sabotaged' the candidate that BN had chosen to field - Tanjong Karang Wanita Umno chief Datuk Habibah Mohd Yusof.

Noh was found to have committed 16 charges of sabotage including having allegedly sponsored an independent candidate.

Habibah lost the GE15 contest in Tanjong Karang to Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi after he polled 18,054 votes.

She garnered 15,874 votes and Rahayu Baharin of Pakatan Harapan (PH) took 12,314 votes.

Also in the contest were also Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's Azlan Sani Zawawi (3,557) and independent candidate Mohd Rosni Mastol (1,406).

In the case of Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein, who successfully defended his Sembrong seat, he was suspended from the party for six years for having allegedly 'misled' nine other Umno MPs to sign the statutory declarations (SDs) supporting Perkatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister after GE15
