KUALA LUMPUR: The sacking of Tan Sri Noh Omar from Umno is over 16 charges faced by the former Tanjong Karang Member of Parliament for sabotaging the party in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said among the acts of sabotage involved was questioning Umno's candidate nominated in the Tanjong Karang Parliamentary seat during GE15.
"As far as we know there is a candidate, Datuk Habibah Mohd Yusof, who was nominated by the party in the last GE to represent BN Tanjung Karang," he said in a press conference at Menara Dato Onn, last night.
Megat Zulkarnain said the decision to suspend Noh's membership was not due to the ex-Housing and Local Government Minister's disagreement with the motion of no contest for the party's two highest posts which was adopted in the 2022 Umno General Assembly.
"The allegations were investigated, reviewed, studied and proven by the Disciplinary Board. It should be remembered that the Independent candidate who contested in Tanjung Karang was Noh's own special officer.
"So it is not true if the decision to suspend him was made by the Disciplinary Board based on him not supporting the motion that was made," he added.
Megat Zulkurnain said Noh can still appeal his suspension since all individuals have the opportunity to do so.
"Noh made a statement asking to be sacked even though at the initial stage he was suspended for six years. I think the meeting agreed with his request.
"That's what he wanted. He asked to be sacked and finally, everyone agreed and he still has the chance to appeal if he wants to," he said.
Earlier last night, the Umno Supreme Council Working Committee chaired by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, sacked Noh from the party after he challenged the party President to revoke his party membership, as opposed to the initial decision to suspend his membership for six years.
