BN Youth calls for 30 per cent of candidates from youth

JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth calls for at least 30 per cent of the candidates of the coalition to be from the youth category to contest in the upcoming state elections.

BN Youth deputy chairman Mohd Hairi Md Shah said that the quota being asked was the same as what was requested during the 15th General Elections.

Hairi, who is also the Umno Youth election director, said that the proposal was not intended to marginalise the old but was made for future generations.

"The people are looking at and evaluating the current leadership. Therefore, seats for the youth and Puteri should be highlighted to secure the future."

He said this when met after the Johor Agro People's Bazaar (BRAJ) sale programme at the Pasar Tani Kekal Jalan Datin Halimah, Larkin, here today.

Hairi, who is also Umno Youth vice-chairman, added that his party had met with the Umno Youth machinery from six states contesting the state elections at the Umno General Assembly (PAU) this week to discuss preparations.

He played down assertions that he would face difficulties in working with Pakatan Harapan Youth (PH) to face the polls.

The Larkin State Assembly member also said that both parties would work as a team to ensure success in the state elections in the six states involved, although they had been political enemies before.
